Our now annual road trip to Maine kicked off on July 1st with a VERY full car and luggage on the top thanks to our extra passenger this year! Wrigley was a model traveler the whole way so we'll forgive him for what a pain it was typing down the broken cargo holder :)
First stop was a night in Pennsylvania at Grandmommy and Granddaddy's empty house, just to get a couple hours under our belt before the first big leg up to Portland.
Before we hit the road, Harper took Wrigley on one last lap around the driveway.
And then they both passed out.
But not Hads...little miss thing forced her eyes to stay open the ENTIRE TRIP.
Pit stop for lunch in Massachusetts
And we made it to Portland!! Fish and Chips the size of Hads head and a grilled cheese for Harper.
And a bottle of wine for Mommy
First tourist purchase of the trip was matching lobster necklaces for the girls. Amazingly they wore them the entire trip and are still wearing them today!
Then on up to hit the outlets in Freeport. This, we've decided, will be where we stay the night next summer so that we can spend more time here!
Big Boot
Big Boot on Wheels
And we made it! Northeast Harbor is such a welcoming site.
Private water taxi welcomed three very comfortable passengers aboard.
They settled in nicely.
Very nicely...
indeed.
Twinners reunited!
And there she is. My favorite island.
A fitting first feast!
Day 1 of our daily puppy romp on sand beach. Wrigley refused to actually swim the entire time we were there, but he frolicked his little heart out.
Color coordinated ladies on the way to the 4th of July picnic!
Happy Birthday, America!
Witness the typical series of pictures that results from asking Harper to smile for the camera:
Finally
Surf n turf lunch
Last year Hadley fell in love with sweet Joe, the mailboat deck hand. This summer's first sighting was nothing short of epic for her...and for everyone who got to witness it actually.
Yep, that says "I love you."
The love note hand off.
And the HUG!
Poor Daddy...we thought we had at least a few more years before we had to deal with this!
Ice cream in Bar Harbor
Trying mussels for the first time...
...they were a HIT!
Island version of mini golf
2nd annual scavenger hunt! Harper and Grandmommy were on a team and raced through graveyards...
...and down beaches, to name a very few of the locations these ladies covered in 2 hours.
Play time with sweet Ashley
The boot. Sigh...
Hadley created her own scavenger hunt after having so much fun with the family hunt.
2nd annual trip to Diver Ed's boat!
Mommy had to lay down law with miss sassy pants, and this is what I found outside of her room the next morning. I'd say "Job well done," for both of us.
Our friends, Finn and his mama Sonya, went strawberry picking off island and invited the girls over for a berry party the next day!
Ashley's exhibit!!
Saying goodbye to Joe
Pottery play time
Saying good bye to Alex
And with barf bag in hand, we headed home....
