With Aron away in Texas for work, it was the perfect time for Harper to have a croup attack at 11:00 p.m. just as I was crawling into bed for the night. The horrible seal-like barking mixed with a very unsettling growling sound had me out of bed and sprinting into her room at full speed. I found her on all fours working so hard to breathe both in and out, which was a very scary sight. 911 was called right away and Mama Sarah came running over to keep me together. The paramedics got Harper calmed down and on a nebulizer right away, and informed me that we needed to go with them to the hospital. Since Sarah's husband too was out of town, she had to go back home and Mama KK came to take her place and stay at the house with Hadley, who was thankfully still sleeping. On the way to the ER, Harper heard the ambulance sirens blaring and looked up at me and said, "Say a prayer, Mommy," as she always does. I told her that those sirens were for her and asked her if she thought someone else was saying a prayer for us this time and she shook her head "yes." Such a tender moment in the middle of all that chaos!
Waiting for the steroid treatment to open her little throat so she can breathe easier
Not liking this one bit
After that was done she kicked me out of bed and took a nap...it was about 1:00 a.m., and I would have appreciated a nap as well!
Awake and feeling MUCH better!
We rushed out of the house so quickly that we needed to take some hospital socks with us to keep warm while we waited for our 2:30 a.m. cab to come get us.
Yep, you heard me. 2:30 a.m. cab home, because that's apparently how you get home from the hospital when you've arrived by ambulance and everyone else is asleep!
We came home to find Hadley and Mama KK snuggled up together in my bed like two peas in a pod :)
