Halloween is a great distraction

"Who's going to make me cookies on a stick now?"

After 3 fun-filled/sanity-saving weeks, Grammy headed back to Michigan to rest up for her trip back for Thanksgiving! We're taking bets on whether she'll even get out of bed between now and then after being chauffeur, cook, entertainer, playmate, and pacifier for our two busy babies. Having her here was such a blessing and the house feels a little empty without her. Even this morning over Hadley's Cheerios she said, "After I'm finished I'm going to go wake up Grammy."

Now that we have an amazing nanny lined up to start tomorrow we could all breathe a collective sigh of relief and get on with the holiday!

The carver and his helper, who has the most important job of all: picking out the seeds for roasting!

This is what you get when the one person with artistic ability in our house is too young to wield a butcher knife. I look forward to the day she gets to draw the design!

Watching in utter disbelief that it's actually SNOWING in October.

The princesses and their prince all ready for the Halloween party at Had's school Saturday night.

Nothing gets the party started like bubbles on the dance floor!

Hadley jumps right into the craft tables...

...while Snow White jumps right into the brownies.

Giving the pumpkin bean bag toss game a try.

STUPID PUMPKIN BEAN BAG TOSS GAME!

Rapunzel the vampire

Dancing with Sonia the mouse

Sonia is Hadley's best buddy at school. Aron and I absolutely adore her. She's the youngest, littlest and shyest in the class, and Had takes great care of her. She also speaks Russian fluently!

And with that, it's time for Rapunzel to go home.

Sunday the sun was shining again and there was no trace of snow, so off to the playground we went.

Sunday afternoon Hadley and I joined Mama Karen and Livi for a 1K charity "walk" at Episcopal High School. We expected a leisurely stroll and good conversation...what we got was a full out sprint at times, followed by some tears and an unfortunate stumble into a pricker bush, and then lots of water breaks, followed by some pep talks, then some frustration when one of the girls would run ahead of the other, then reconciliation...all in all, some big life lessons covered in that short distance!

Getting our race bibs

The littlest racers of the day eagerly waiting to tear up that course!

And they're off!! Hadley took off like she'd been shot out of a cannon, while Livi screamed for her as she tried to catch up. I was beaming with pride until all the gas ran out of Had's tank about 100 feet later and she wanted to go home.

Tears wiped away, friends reunited, and going for their first pass.

Once again Had turns on the jets!

Water break while we wait for Livi.

Hadley actually ran back and yelled, "Come ON, Livi!"

Rosy-cheecked runners readying themselves for the big finish.

Cue the Chariots of Fire theme song!

Champions!

And SOMEHOW she had energy left over for the moon bounce.

Giving the pumpkin bean bag toss another try...this time standing a lot closer and practically placing the bean bags in the holes.

Much more satisfied with the outcome this time!

After all that running, we decided frozen yogurt was deserved.

A sweet ending to a bittersweet weekend.
